A behind-the-scenes look: How we select our talent and why we value Soft Skills

In the modern working world, a company’s effectiveness is not measured only by figures and technical skills, but above all through human value, individual aptitudes and the ability to integrate into a dynamic and flexible professional ecosystem.
At WRM Solutions, we firmly believe that the success of a project begins with people. For this reason, we have designed a structured and transparent selection process, conceived not only to evaluate applications, but also to offer candidates a genuine opportunity to discover our reality and our company culture.
Our 3-Step Selection Process
Our recruitment process is structured around three key stages, each with a precise objective.
The first step is the Introductory Interview. Its main objective is the evaluation of Soft Skills, personal values, cultural alignment and aptitude for flexible working.
The second step is the Technical Interview. Its main objective is the in-depth assessment of Hard Skills, sector competencies and resolution of practical cases.
The third step is the Final Meeting. Its main objective is the conclusion of the process and the sharing of the contractual proposal.
While the second stage enters into the technical specifics of the role and the third seals the professional partnership, the true beating heart of our first contact lies in the first interview.
The First Interview: Why Soft Skills make the difference for us
The first interview is a moment of reciprocity: we introduce ourselves, we listen to each other and we lay the foundations for a lasting collaboration. At this stage, we do not focus on purely technical aspects — which we will analyse subsequently — but give space to general questions, the candidate’s personal and professional journey and, above all, their soft skills.
Why do we dedicate so much attention to this aspect?
Emotional intelligence and relationships: technical skills can be taught and refined over time with training; human aptitudes, the capacity to listen, empathy and a collaborative spirit are, on the other hand, distinctive traits of each individual.
Problem solving and adaptability: in a constantly evolving market, what truly makes the difference when faced with the unexpected is the ability to remain calm, communicate effectively and find creative solutions.
Alignment with company values: we want to ensure that the candidate’s vision coincides with our fundamental values: responsibility, freedom, transparency and mutual respect.
Smart Working as a pillar of our Company Culture
One central element characterises the way we work and makes soft skills even more relevant: our Smart Working model.
At WRM Solutions, smart working is not a simple benefit or an occasionally granted privilege, but a genuine habit embedded in our company culture. We believe in responsible autonomy, flexibility and the achievement of objectives far more than in controlling the hours spent at a desk.
Working in agile mode, however, requires specific transversal competencies that we carefully explore and evaluate from the very first introductory interview.
Autonomy and Time Management: knowing how to organise one’s priorities and manage one’s working day with discipline and efficiency.
Proactive and Clear Communication: at a distance, punctual and transparent communication through our collaboration tools is the key to maintaining strong teamwork and preventing misunderstandings.
Trust and Responsibility: remote working is based on mutual trust. We look for people capable of taking initiative and driving their tasks with a genuine results-oriented culture.
Soft Skills: A Detailed Guide
Soft skills, or transversal competencies, are the set of personal, relational and behavioural qualities that determine the way a person works, communicates and relates to others. Unlike hard skills, which are acquired through study and technical training, soft skills develop over time through experience, self-awareness and exposure to different contexts. This is why, during the selection process, we dedicate particular attention to them.
Some concrete examples of Soft Skills
Effective communication: knowing how to express ideas clearly and listen actively, adapting the communication register to the interlocutor and the context.
Emotional intelligence: the ability to recognise and manage one’s own emotions and those of others, fostering healthier and more empathetic working relationships.
Problem solving: the aptitude to face unexpected situations with an analytical and creative approach, identifying practical and effective solutions.
Teamwork: the ability to collaborate with colleagues of diverse backgrounds and competencies, placing collective results before individual prominence.
Adaptability and flexibility: the willingness to modify one’s approach in the face of organisational, technological or market changes.
Leadership: the ability to inspire, motivate and guide a group towards a common objective, even without a formal hierarchical role.
Critical thinking: the ability to analyse information and situations objectively, evaluating alternatives before making a decision.
Why are Soft Skills so important?
Technical skills remain fundamental, but they are no longer sufficient on their own to guarantee professional success. Soft skills are what allows people to best apply their technical knowledge in real contexts, often complex and in constant evolution. They are also more difficult to teach in a short time and more lasting, because they are rooted in each person’s character and experience. Investing in their evaluation allows us to build more cohesive, resilient teams capable of adapting rapidly to market challenges, thus contributing to a healthy working environment and sustainable company growth over the long term.
Conclusion: We build the future together
If you wish to join our team, remember that the first interview will never be a formal examination, but an open dialogue. We want to discover the person behind the CV, understand their aspirations and understand how their personality can enrich our company culture.
If you believe in teamwork, continuous growth and the responsible freedom offered by smart working, we look forward to meeting you!
